7-Zip is the most compression ratio file archiver which I have been using. In fact it results are marvellous. It has 10 percent more compression ratio than its rivals. It is open source software which runs under GNU LGPL.

It works with Windows 7, Vista / XP / 2008 / 2003 / 2000 / NT / ME / 98. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix. 7-Zip gives 7 to 30 percent better results than its rivals.
